Cataract: A Natural Part of Aging

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside your eye. This lens, located behind the iris, works just like the lens of a camera – focusing light images on the retina, which sends images to the brain. A cataract can be the reason sharp objects become blurred, bright colors become dull, or seeing at night is more difficult. It may also be why reading glasses or bifocals are used to help you no longer seem to be effective.

Vision with cataracts has been described as seeing life though an old, cloudy film. Eye injury, certain diseases, or even some medications can cause clouding, but the majority of cataracts are simply the result of the natural aging process.

The best way to treat a cataract is with surgery that removes the old, clouded lens and replacing it with a new, artificial lens to restore your vision and, in many ways, significantly improve your quality of life.

We offer Monofocal, Toric, Tri-focal and Multifocal Advanced Technology lenses to meet any of your unique vision needs.

Advanced Technology Lens Options to Consider

Today, IOLs are available as monofocal lenses (correcting vision for one distance), accommodating lenses (correcting for near, far, and intermediate vision), toric lenses (astigmatism correcting), and multifocal lenses (correcting for near, far, and intermediate vision).

Symfony® IOL Lens

Symfony® IOL is the first lens of its kind to combine two unique technologies for outstanding visual performance: an Extended Depth of Focus IOL provides a continuous range of high-quality vision from near to far and points in between and may reduce the frequency of wearing glasses. Symfony Toric intraocular lens compensates for corneal astigmatism as well as a range of continuous vision including distance and near.

Alcon AcrySof® Toric

The Alcon Acrysof® Toric intraocular lens compensates for corneal astigmatism. This lens does not allow for continuous vision including near but can provide exceptional distance vision.

Acrysof® ReSTOR® Lens

The AcrySof® ReSTOR® intraocular lens (IOL) is an artificial lens that can restore a patient’s full range of vision while reducing a patient’s dependence on bifocals or prescription reading glasses.
